One Future has a team of Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal qualified, tertiary-trained staff to respond to individual and organisational need. We offer a rapid-response service designed to support organisations in completing urgent assessments, as well as planned assessments.

Foster and Kinship Assessment

One Future has degree-qualified, independent assessors ready to complete foster and kinship care assessments, both provisional and full authorisation. Our staff are Step-by-Step trained in order to meet agency requirements as needed. We can offer Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal assessors and are able to undertake face-to-face and virtual assessments. 

Guardianship Assessment

Guardianship orders are a way of helping ensure a child has a stable, nurturing and safe home, and achieving permanency.  Guardianship assessments are undertaken to ensure the suitability of the carers to meet the needs of the child/young person. Our reports are submitted to the Children's Court to guide the Court's decision about whether a guardianship order is the best option to meet the needs of the child. 

Parenting Capacity Assessment

Parenting capacity assessments are specialised assessments to assess the parent's capacity to care for a child and focus on identifying strengths and risks in relation to the six dimensions of parenting as well as taking into account the impact of wider factors on parenting and the child's development. Our assessors are highly skilled and work closely with agencies to support permanency planning and restoration.

Best Interest Placement Assessment

Best interest placement assessments can be undertaken to help decision-making when a child or young person is in care and requires an independent assessment to determine what placement is in a child's best interest. These assessments are often complex and involve working with multiple parties to complete. As with all our assessments, the focus is on the child; their safety and wellbeing. 

Family Time Review Assessment

Family time review assessments are undertaken by our independent assessors to inform family time planning and make recommendations around frequency, length and type of contact. Family time reviews involve consulting with family and the child/young person and consider a child's age, development, culture, quality/nature of relationship with a parent/sibling and safety in making any decision. 

Individual Needs Assessment

Individual needs assessments focus on an individual child/young person's needs across their childhood to ensure any decisions made in relation to where they are living, who they are living with or family contact are based on thorough, informed assessments which take into account the child/young person's safety, wellbeing, culture, age, family and identify strengths as well as risks that need to be addressed. 

Quality Assesssment Framework (QAF)

At One Future we guarantee our assessments through our certified Quality Assessment Framework (QAF) to ensure that the assessment meets the desired quality standards of our clients. Each assessment is sent to our Quality Assurance Team who examines and marks the work against the QAF. This ensures quality of service every time for our clients, or we do it again for free.

This type of assessment is carried out by a Qualified One Future Consultant to assess the kinship carer's capacity to meet the child's physical, emotional, and developmental needs.

The assessment will involve interviews with the prospective kinship carer, the child, and other family members or individuals who are involved in the child's life. The assessment will also include an evaluation of the kinship carer's home environment, financial stability, and support network.

The purpose of a Kinship Carer Assessment is to ensure that the child is placed in a safe and stable environment and that the kinship carer is provided with the necessary support to enable them to provide adequate care to the child. The assessment also aims to identify any potential risks or challenges that may arise during the placement and to develop a plan to address these issues.
What is a Foster Care Assessment?

A Foster Care Assessment is a process that is used to evaluate the suitability of a prospective foster parent or family to provide care for a child who has been removed from their birth family due to abuse, neglect, or other issues. The assessment is conducted by a One Future Consultant includes interviews with the prospective foster parent(s), background checks, and a home study. The home study involves an evaluation of the foster home environment, including the physical living conditions and the emotional and social support available to the child. The purpose of the Foster Care Assessment is to ensure that the prospective foster parent(s) are able to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the child and that the child's needs will be met while in foster care. The assessment also aims to identify any potential risks or challenges that may arise during the placement and to develop a plan to address these issues.

What is a Guardianship Assessment?
A ​Guardian Assessment is a process that is used to evaluate the suitability of a prospective guardian to provide care for a child who is not their biological child but may have been placed in their care due to various circumstances. This assessment is done by a One Future consultant to assess the prospective guardian's capacity to meet the child's physical, emotional, and developmental needs.

The assessment usually involves interviews with the prospective guardian, the child, and other family members or individuals who are involved in the child's life. The assessment will also include an evaluation of the guardian's home environment, financial stability, and support network. The purpose of a Guardian Assessment is to ensure that the child is placed in a safe and stable environment and that the guardian is provided with the necessary support to enable them to provide adequate care to the child. The assessment also aims to identify any potential risks or challenges that may arise during the placement and to develop a plan to address these issues.

What is a Family Time Review?
A ​Family Time Review is a meeting that is held between a child in out-of-home care and their birth family members, with the support and oversight of child welfare professionals. The purpose of the Family Time Review is to evaluate the progress of the child and their family towards achieving their reunification goals, and to determine the next steps in their case plan.

During the Family Time Review meeting, the child and their family members are given the opportunity to spend time together, with the support of a child welfare professional who observes their interactions and provides guidance and feedback as needed. The professionals involved in the meeting may include the child's OOHC Case worker, foster parent, therapist, and other service providers who are involved in their care.

The review process typically involves a discussion of the progress that has been made towards the goals outlined in the family's case plan, as well as any challenges or barriers that have arisen. The family is given the opportunity to provide input and feedback on the case plan, and to suggest any changes or modifications that they feel would better support their progress towards reunification.

The ultimate goal of the Family Time Review is to facilitate safe and appropriate reunification between the child and their birth family, while ensuring that the child's safety and well-being remain the top priority throughout the process. By providing regular opportunities for families to spend time together and receive support and guidance from child welfare professionals, the Family Time Review can help to promote positive outcomes for children and their families in out-of-home care.
