Family and Community Services Insights, Analysis and Research (FACSIAR) is a branch within the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of social services through in-depth analysis, research, and evaluation. FACSIAR collaborates with government and non-government agencies, as well as research organisations, on specialised projects that involve data linkage and comprehensive evaluation activities. The aim is to promote evidence-based practices that help DCJ and its stakeholders continuously improve their services to the community.

FACSIAR has an upcoming webinar titled, "Supporting families with complex needs with child protection contact – Findings from a new ANROWS study. This webinar will explore the complex interrelations between family dynamics and child protection issues. Dr. Betty Luu will present findings from the ANROWS Study at the University of Sydney, which uses the NSW Human Services Dataset to observe how families interact with various services over time. The research highlights how domestic and family violence, mental health issues, and substance abuse intersect and contribute to child protection challenges.

This session will feature a panel discussion with experts from different sectors who will discuss the application of these findings to improve service delivery. The webinar, chaired by Jessica Stewart, is an essential event for professionals eager to use evidence-based research to enhance outcomes for children and families.

Panellists Include:
  • Zoe Weston, Acting Director, Practice and Permanency, Southern and Western NSW, OSP, DCJ
  • Phillipa Hetherton, Director, Women Family and Community Safety, SPC, DCJ
